Is there any survival difference between grey & black hair?
No, both grey and black hair can be transplanted and grow naturally.
What about Hair structure and Hair life cycle?
Hair is composed of strong structural protein called keratin. This is the same kind of protein that makes up the nails and the outer layer of skin. Also contain natural oils (lipids) and water.
Hair follicles grow in repeated cycles. One cycle consists 3 stages:
→ Anagen: It is the growing phase of a hair follicle (85-90%) which lasts about 3 to 6 year. Hair grows approximately 10cm per year.
→ Catagen: At the end of the growth phase, hair follicles (1%) prepare themselves for the resting phase. This stage of the hair growth cycle usually lasts about 1 to 2 weeks.
→ Telogen: The resting phase follows the catagen phase and normally lasts about 1 to 3 months. During this time the hair (10-15%) does not grow. At the end of the Telogen phase the hair follicle re-enters the Anagen phase.
What are the causes of hair loss in men?
By far the most common cause of hair loss in men is the “Androgenetic Alopecia” or “common” baldness. The Androgenic Alopecia is due to the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which prevents the blood flow to the scalp, reduces the supply of nutrients and oxygen in the pouch making the pockets sensitive to DHT. They gradually produce thinner hair until the pockets shrink completely and stop producing hair. Other causes can be stress, scalp bacteria, poor nutrition, hormonal imbalance, injury and high fever.
Is the hair quality and rate of growth the same for everyone?
The hair quality and rate of growth depend highly on the race. African hair grows much slower and is much more fragile than Caucasian hair. Asian hair grows the fastest and has the greatest elasticity. African and European people are more prone to hair loss than Asian people.
How long after Hair Transplant surgery can one comfortably get back to work?
The patient can get back to work as from the next day. However, if the patient is self-conscious about their appearance then it would be better to wait for another 10 to 15 days.
Is the procedure performed under Local or General Anesthesia?
The FUE technique is performed under local anesthesia. Anesthesia is initially injected in the donor area during the extraction and then in the recipient area at the time of the hair transplantation to ensure that the client does not feel any pain during the procedure.
How long will the local anesthesia last?
The local anesthesia may last from 6-8 hours.
Which is the direction of the hair transplant?
The direction of the hair transplant is usually that of the existing hair.
How many grafts can be extracted in a single session?
Approximately 5000 grafts (7000 hairs), depending on the donor area.
What is the range of the extraction rate per hour?
The range may vary from 700 – 1000 grafts per hour (1800 – 2300 hairs).
What happens to the donor area after the hair transplantation session? Will it go bald?
No, it doesn’t go bald.
